Illustration*Friday - SMITTEN

i did this one a few months back. Due to time restraints I didnt get to create a new piece for the category; as far as being "smitten" I was certainly smitten with the final outcome. (I have yet to fill in her booties) The piece is a mixed media using origami paper, colored pencils, and ink. The concept came from an episode of Miami Ink where one of the artists created a baby geisha for a customer.. i loved it so much I recreated my own.

Illustration*Friday- phobia

Ah!! I'm slippin on this illustration Friday thing. Its been weeks since I've had an entry but I came back into Phobia with a vengeance. One of my favorites I must say. The pants are actual denim, everything else is simple pen/ink with a dash of pink colored pencils.

Illustration*Friday: CAPTURE

This was actually something that was never intended to be for IllustrationFriday but it ended up fitting the concept of capture. You capture someone's heart and oftentimes the haunting ghosts of his/her past attempt to fight you off. Love is only half the battle.

Illustration*Friday CLEAN

I missed the last two Fridays and was determined not to let this one slip by. Normally I like to derail a bit from the norm but how could i resist putting a monkey in a tub?? rock on little monkey, rock on....

Illustration Friday: SKYLINE

I'm always anxious to see the themes on Friday.. usually i get straightaway to work on my illustration submission (yes I'm a geek that way) but this time i was baffled. I love big cities so I knew I had to stay within that realm, yet everything i sketched was incredibly lame.. I just wasnt entirely into it. This morning I woke up thinking how great it would be to create images of my art onto purses so I could carry them everywhere i went. Thats about the time the skyline dress came into my mind. It took me all week to think of something but alas, my submission.

Illustration Friday: STICKY

-Click for larger image-

My original thought upon seeing Fridays theme was to make a gooey murky abstract mess of greens and browns. After a few rough sketches I had a vision of a sticky bun in my head and haven't been able to shake it since. Mmm... sticky. First time i've completed anything in pastels. delicioso!

*edited*- i liked this so much i actually cut some mats out and framed it in a luscious semi-glossy white frame :)

Illustration Friday: RAIN

Click on image for actual size

I've never been a fan of rainy days. They're the type that make you seek comfort. Unfortuneatly for this little girl, there is no comfort without her beloved Mimi.

*Oddly enough I am neither a fan of rainy days nor cats-- strange of me to draw such a sad girl missing her cat. Once, while in elementary school I joined a winter art program in which I wrote and illustrated a story called "The case of the missing cat"-- I must have been around 7-8 years old. This morning my mother made the excellent point of saying I am only fond of cats when they go missing. hah! Forgive me cat lovers
